Conference Workshops

Workshop I: SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Conference participants will have a unique opportunity to engage in a dynamic skill building workshop on the challenges faced in creating a sustainable social enterprise in the developing world. How can the most pressing needs be addressed in a sustainable and innovative way? What are the challenges posed by the environment in which you are working in? How can you utilize all of the resources to overcome these challenges?

Workshop II: MULTI-SECTOR COLLABORATION: DRIVING PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT

This workshop will stress opportunities for collaborating with multi-sectors partners to combat rural poverty in developing countries. Workshop leaders will share lessons learned from the field and present a “how-to” guide on forging strategic public-private partnerships that can support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises and build entire industries in some of the world’s most impoverished regions.

Workshop III: OVERCOMING CHALLENGES OF WORKING IN A RESTRICTED ENVIRONMENT

This workshop will focus on successful strategies for operating in countries with restricted environments, where the government strictly regulates civil society. For example, if the government will not officially register your organization, what are the alternatives; what security measures should you put in place for such an environment; and what are the best strategies for engaging with local civil society?

Workshop IV: USING THE POWER OF MULTI-SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS TO IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL PPORTUNITIES

This interactive workshop will focus on how to develop and leverage partnerships to improve educational opportunities in the developing world. In particular, workshop participants will look closely at the roles of government, corporate and NGO partners in achieving desired outcomes and long-term sustainability. Participants will explore how successful partnerships are defined and sustained, how they evolve, how to overcome barriers, and where they fit in the overall toolbox of strategies for improving educational opportunities.   Concepts and strategies explored during this workshop can be applied to a wide variety of community development initiatives.
